We'll be hosting our Autumn Mediators Quarterly (MQ) event on Friday, October 19th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the Deschutes Children's Foundation (DCF) Rosie Bareis community campus located at 1010 NW 14th Street in Bend. These year's Oktoberfest theme will include a BBQ menu of bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels, fresh greens, traditional German desserts, and of course some hearty hefeweizen and other refreshments.

Mediators are essential contributors in helping people constructively communicate during life's difficult moments. Serving as neutral third parties, mediators help individuals, businesses and communities identify needs and craft solutions to a wide range of issues and disputes. This course incorporates aspects of mediation theory and principles practiced by Oregon-based community dispute resolution centers (CDRC), all of which provide programs and services in line with Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 36. Following our most recent Basic Mediation Training (BMT) course, four students signed up as new volunteer mediators for our organization. All are Bend-area residents with a variety of backgrounds to include one nonprofit Board member, an IT business manager, a college professor, and college student. Welcome all!
The Community Solutions BMT course is structured in two parts. Part 1 is web-based with course content provided via a Trainee Portal on our website. Part 2 is a practicum with course content provided via instruction at the Becky Johnson Community Center (BJCC) in Redmond. This includes classroom instruction, group discussions, and role play settings. Part 1 commences on your enrollment date through Friday, March 24, 2017; Part 2 commences Friday – Sunday, March 31 – April 2, 2017 from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM daily at BJCC.
